Overview:
This 3-day hands on course introduces students to ESRI’s ArcGIS 10, emphasizing its use for environmental applications.  Students are introduced to basic GIS concepts and ArcGIS functionality.  The course incorporates environmental applications of GIS as the framework for course exercises and demonstrations, and builds upon a discussion of general GIS concepts and vocabulary to form a comprehensive overview of ArcGIS 10’s  functions and uses in the environmental field. Each participant will use ArcGIS to create, edit, and analyze real world environmental data during hands-on exercises.

Displaying Spatial Data in 3D


Using ModelBuilder for Geoprocessing and Analysis

After completing this course, participants will be able to:
  • Apply a conceptual overview of GIS and spatial analysis to environmental data.
  • Understand and utilize the fundamental capabilities of ArcGIS.
  • Design and create simple geodatabases.
  • Create and edit vector data using ArcGIS.
  • Create maps using ArcGIS.
  • Create and manipulate raster data.
  • Perform spatial analysis using ArcGIS Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst.
  • Automate geoprocessing and analytical models using ModelBuilder.
Education Level: Introductory to intermediate/refresher.

Prerequisites: None.

Course Materials: Course lecture and exercise manual, and reference material.

Credit: 22.5 PDHs and 2.25 CEUs for completing 22.5 hours of instruction.

About the Instructor: Jeff Berry currently serves as Senior GIS Analyst for Erlandsen & Associates, an Engineering and GIS Services firm.  With over 18 years of experience as a GIS Analyst, he has worked extensively with ESRI software as an analyst and as a GIS software developer.  Jeff has also developed and taught numerous GIS courses covering beginning and advanced GIS topics.
