Instructor: Darrick Turner

Overview: This workshop introduces government staff and corporate compliance managers to the key principles of agency environmental enforcement and compliance inspections. Participants will gain an improved understanding of  environmental enforcement principles, techniques, and terminology in addition to preparing participants to perform effectively in an enforcement or compliance position. This class will focus on basic practices of personal and scene safety, mapping, photography, reporting, communication, along with a focus on complaint and case progression. Participants will learn the composition of the enforcement process and gain the necessary knowledge to attend the two-day "Advanced Environmental Enforcement and Investigative Techniques" workshop that immediately follows this class.

About the Instructor: Darrick Turner is an environmental enforcement specialist with Montana’s Department of Environmental Quality where he manages enforcement cases addressing LUST/UST, remediation, solid waste, mining, septage, public water, and water quality violations. Mr. Turner has extensive experience in site characterization, emergency response, remediation, and regulatory compliance assistance including administrative civil enforcement by means of both informal and formal legal activity. Mr. Turner has been recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency for his effective investigative and case management practices.
